/ ABOUT PROJECT

HIGH SPEED
RAILWAY LINE PROJECT
TOTAL LENGTH
503,3 KM

The project was included in the investment program of the state with the name of Ankara-İzmir Railway project in 2004. EIA Positive Decision was secured from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (currently acting as Ministry of Environment and Urbanization) on 9 March 2006 with the Decision no. 1090. The Project aims to improve the efficiency and adequacy of the transport system in the region. The project will alleviate traffic congestion and promote socio-economic development to support tourism in Izmir. When complete, the HSR travel time will be reduced to much shorter times; from 14 hours by existing indirect railway routes, and approximately 9 hours via the Ankara-Izmir motorway which is 587 km. With airport transfers, operations and waiting time, air travel between Ankara and Izmir is approximately three and a half hours. The substantial reduction in HSR time will make the HSR the best option when travelling between the two cities.
